HAZLETON — A crash at the corner of 11th and McKinley streets left one man dead and others injured, according to a news release from the Hazleton Police Department.

Police units responded around 6 a.m. Saturday to reports of an accident invovling a car and a motorcycle that left one male lying unresponsive, bleeding from the head.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a Mazda vehicle resting up against a retaining wall with heavy front-end damage, and a Kawasaki motorcycle lying in the intersection of 11th and McKinley streets.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old male, was found lying unresponsive on the sidewalk just in front of where the Mazda came to rest.

He was quickly given medical attention, where first responders found him with a pulse, but not breathing. He was transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Hazleton, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on the officers’ investigation, the operator of the Mazda, 18-year-old Argenis Andujar Jr. was believed to be traveling west on 11th Street after a reported altercation with the operator of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist passed Andujar on 11th Street, and came to a stop in front of the Mazda at the intersection, where he was struck from behind by the vehicle and thrown from the motorcycle.

Andujar and his two passengers were all transported to LVHH for evaluation of minor injuries.
