ORWIGSBURG — A man has been charged with murder in a stabbing death that authorities say followed a road rage confrontation in Schuylkill County.

Tamiir Whitted, 29, of Pottsville was charged with first- and third-degree murder as well as aggravated assault and other counts, according to police and court documents.

State police said two people in a sedan and a truck both heading south on Route 61 got into a road rage confrontation Monday. Police said they left their vehicles and “engaged in a physical confrontation” in West Brunswick Township, and one produced a knife and stabbed the other multiple times.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old George Marcincin of Orwigsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner’s office. Police said the sedan driver had left the scene by the time troopers arrived but was pulled over after a short pursuit by Orwigsburg police.

Whitted was arraigned late Monday night in district court and sent to Schuylkill County Prison without bail. Court documents indicate that he has asked to be represented by the county public defender’s office; a message seeking comment was left with the office Tuesday.
