The Kingston Municipal Police Department issued a release Monday alerting borough residents to be cautious when using mail collection boxes around town due to prior thefts from the mailboxes.

The release says that residents should use caution when mailing checks, financial information, items of worth or other important items after a series of thefts from the blue-colored mail collection boxes around Kingston, most recently the boxes in front of the U.S. Post Office building on Wyoming Avenue in the borough.

The police department recommends that area residents physically mail any of these mentioned items inside of a local Post Office branch to ensure the safety of financial information.

Area residents are asked to dial 911 to report any suspicious activity observed in relation to the blue-colored mail collection boxes.
