WILKES-BARRE — A man was taken to a hospital following a fire at his residence early Wednesday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Alan Klapat said city police reported the fire just after 4 a.m. at 36 Caitlin Ave.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the homeowner was outside and taken to a hospital.

Klapat said the man suffered smoke inhalation and has been released.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze that caused extensive damage to the house, Klapat said.

A firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Klapat said.
