WILKES-BARRE — The Department of Health reported Sunday that there were 221 new cases of COVID-19 in Luzerne County and four new deaths.

That brings the total number of confirmed cases in Luzerne County to 9,656; the death count is at 271.

Neighboring Lackawanna County has 5,173 cases and 231 deaths; Monroe County has 3,386 cases and 143 deaths.

The Department of Health does not release a daily update on Sunday. A two-day report will be available on Monday.

On Saturday, the Department of Health confirmed that there were 8,053 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 351,667.

There were 2,904 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 864 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

Statewide percent positivity stood at 11.7%.
