...thoughtful and incisive reporting and impeccable journalistic integrity. That is a testament to the dedication of every owner, reporter, editor, photographer, manager and publisher who has been part of the paper’s storied history. To publish a daily newspaper is truly a labor of love, and the entire staff is essential to keeping that strong pulse on our local and regional news. I’m proud that the Times Leader has one of the best teams in the business. I hope they continue to find purpose and fulfillment in sharing the news with Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I am also grateful to the readers who have who have made the Times Leader a part of their daily lives. ...well-informed participants in our democracy. The Times Leader’s 115th anniversary is a testament to their long legacy of doing that important work. At a time when so many of the nation’s biggest newspapers are struggling to survive, the Times Leader has remained a pillar in Luzerne County because of their steadfast dedication to honest and transparent reporting. On behalf of our Commonwealth, I am grateful to the Times Leader and their reporters for 115 years of important work in Pennsylvania.

The Times Leader’s celebration of its 115th anniversary reflects its dedication to the community. For over a century, the Times Leader has provided local and national news including business, sports, and social reporting as well as features highlighting the history and opportunity in our community.

The Times Leader Media group is known for its community involvement through event sponsorship and media coverage. Recently, the Times Leader Media group made major investments to its East Market Street building and remains a cornerstone of downtown Wilkes-Barre.

I congratulate the Times Leader Media Group on their 115th Anniversary and thank them for their commitment to the community.

... celebration. Local newspapers are critical to their cities. Their original reporting and commentary keep people informed and civically engaged. They provide a running record of all the occurrences — from the major events to the wedding anniversaries and kindergarten graduations — that comprise the life of a community.

Philip Graham, the former publisher of the Washington Post, would often say that newspapers are “the first rough draft of history.” In Wilkes-Barre, the Times Leader has performed that role for 115 years. During the past two decades, an astonishing number of American towns have lost their local newspapers. Too many places are now “news deserts,” without any reliable professional journalism to inform the public, shine a light on issues, and bind a community together.

However, that isn’t the case in Wilkes-Barre and the Wyoming Valley — and our community is better for it. As a result, it’s wonderful to be able to wish the Times Leader a happy 115th birthday. I want to thank its employees for their service to our community through dedicated local journalism — keep up the good work!

... newspaper that works to showcase and promote Northeastern PA is an amazing asset for the work we do. Our goal at PNE is to attract quality employers to Northeastern PA. We do that in a number of ways by proactively marketing our assets. The Times Leader serves as one of those platforms to bring together the members of our local community by featuring information and news.

Some of the key components of a community newspaper is to:
√ Promote local events and businesses, fostering a sense of community spirit and helping to support the local economy.
√ Keep residents informed about important local issues and provide a forum for discussion and public engagement.
√ Offer an opportunity for local businesses to advertise and reach their target audience. √ Provide a voice for many different groups while promoting diversity and inclusiveness within the community.
√ Preserve the community’s cultural identity and history by highlighting its people, places, and events.

The Times Leader checks all of these boxes. We are fortunate to have this asset in our community and best wishes for another 115 years!
